While I typically post about personal style, editorial fashion finds, and my favorite new brands, today I am doing something a bit different. I’m going to share with you my favorite women’s t-shirt styles. While you won’t find me posting many of my more casual outfits, on most weekday afternoons, you will likely find me at my computer in a pair of comfortable jeans and a great tee.
I ended up trying about 15 different women’s t-shirt styles over the past six months and below are the five that made the cut. I’m also going to walk you through a few styles that just didn’t work *for me*. I’m covering quite a few styles, but all landed under the 40 dollar price point! While I am certainly not against investing heavily in basics, t-shirts are just not where I am going to spend my dollars. I am way too hard on my basic tees to be spending more than $50 a pop!
Let’s discover the perfect women’s t-shirt together below..
A GREAT RELAXED T-SHIRT
I bought this tee in both grey and white and will probably go back for more colors. This tee has a relaxed fit with a dropped shoulder and slightly oversized pocket. It has a lot of drape and is extremely soft. It comes in over 35 colors and is under $20! I have been wearing mine back to easy jean shorts and sandals. I love how this tee feels a bit ‘cooler’ and the neckline is perfect for the layered necklace look. This style fits true to size, but again is a relaxed, looser fit. Shop it here.
EVERYDAY CREW T-SHIRT
Caslon has long been one of my favorite brands to buy tees from. I recently bought this slub crew neck tee and it has been my most worn of this entire post. Living in Florida, I love how lightweight and breathable it is. It is a more fitted tee without being restrictive and I love how the crew sits close to the neck. I bought it in solid white and the stripe version, but there are so many great colorways to chose from. This style holds up amazingly well in the wash and can easily be layered under a sweater or sweatshirt. It fits true to size and is a great deal at $19.
RIBBED T-SHIRT
When this style arrived I was a bit on the fence about it. To be honest, I thought it may be a bit too GenZ for me. Once I put it I quickly changed my tune. This style is very fitted, but has a lot of stretch making it super forgiving. It has such a soft hand feel, the crew sits very close to the neck, and the sleeves are a bit shorter compared to the other styles featured in this post. I am always hesitant to buy stretch styles that are fitted – if they are not made with quality materials they loose their shape quickly. This style has held up and has great recovery. I am a HUGE fan of this tank and this tank from the same brand, so no surprise this ended up being a winner!
A DRESSIER T-SHIRT
Up until this point, I will say most of these tees read quite casual. The next two I am highlighting are a little more clean and can be dressed up! First up is this tee that is extremely soft with a tight fit. It is a slightly heavier knit gauge complete with stretch. I puchased it in black and love that I can wear it back to a midi skirt and kitten heels or tucked into dark high rise denim and paired back to stilettos. The product images on the site are a bit misleading as I found the top in my size to be more fitted.
A SUPER TIGHT T-SHIRT
This is one of the only tees on the list that doesn’t contain cotton and is actually a very fitted, very stretchy poly blend. At first I was going to return this as it is on the shorter side and I wouldn’t be comfortable wearing with my mid rise denim. However, once I started mixing and matching it with my dressy skirts and high rise pants I loved it. This is the only style that I wouldn’t dress down or consider ‘casual’. I kept it in black since this is the style I envision dressing up the most.
THE WOMEN’S T-SHIRTS THAT DIDN’T WORK
The Good American Crew Neck and Baby Tee
This tee and this tee have lots of recommendations from other influencers and great reviews. I found both of them to be stiff and boxy. Sadly they had a very dry, rigid hand. Unfortunately for me they felt cheap for the price point and I didn’t love the hand-feel or fit.
Amazon Basic T-Shirt
I picked these tees up with high hopes but the very open crew neckline and small binding to me felt dated. The fit was also off, as the tee was too loose in the shoulders, yet overly fitted through the body.
Open Edit Smooth Tee
I love so much of what Open Edit does, but sadly this tee didn’t work for me. It is a similar material to this t-shirt that I did keep, but it was too tight and short, and the lack of binding felt odd. The tee is really soft and stretchy. While it doesn’t work for me due to the fit, I could see it being a great piece for someone looking for more of a cropped, dressy style.
Target Basic T-Shirt
While this tee is great, I simply found this one to be similar and a bit better. I prefer the hand and fit of this tee, but there is a price difference. If you are looking for a women’s t-shirt that rings in under $10 I would still recommend the Target one!
